About US
The Children’s Foundation of the Oranges (formerly the Orange Orphan Society) was established in 1854 for the care of orphaned and needy children from Orange, New Jersey. They support those living at the Newark Orphan Asylum and later at the Orange Orphanage. After the Orange Orphanage closed in the 1940s, the Society rededicated itself to funding organizations that feed, house, educate, and nurture children in need in the village of Orange and surrounding towns.
Now under a new name, the Children's Foundation of the Oranges proudly continues its mission of care and enrichment, serving the children of Orange, East Orange, South Orange, West Orange, and Maplewood, New Jersey.
The Children’s Foundation of the Oranges (CFO) funds are administered and distributed solely by its board of trustees, who are local community volunteers. Distributions are made annually in the form of grants to worthy non-profit organizations whose objectives are consistent with the foundation’s mission. CFO funds are provided solely to agencies that serve children up to the age of eighteen, who reside in the five New Jersey towns included in its catchment area: East Orange, Orange, South Orange, West Orange and Maplewood.
The Children’s Foundation of the Oranges’ trustees maintain ongoing contact with grantees to ensure that the funds are being used to accomplish their intended purposes, which may include housing, nutrition, education, physical and emotional health, the arts and recreation.
The Children’s Foundation of the Oranges is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.
The foundation does not solicit donations.
